“In this work, Flavin activates a room’s corner, an area that is often neglected in an art gallery but that is architecturally crucial to the experience of art. Flavin used this space to test the perceptual effects of colored fluorescent lights when used in combination, finding that some colors in the spectrum are more dominant that others and that certain colors change when used in concert with others. Flavin built his career on the study of such subtle manipulations, as much science as they are immersive aesthetic experiences. The title refers to famous New York gallerist Leo Castelli.”
